Dan Edmonds “Danny Boy”

Dan Edmonds (formerly of Harlan Pepper) has released 4 full-length indie albums in the last 7 years, cementing himself as one of Hamilton’s premiere indie songwriters. Even collaborating with Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck), Bryan Devendorf (The National) and of course he and Aaron Hutchinson and pals at their co-owned downtown Hamont studio Fort Rose.

He and his sound have matured greatly since his teenage years when he was catapulted into the CDN music spotlight opening and touring with Blackie & the Rodeo Kings across Canada with his buds in Harlan Pepper. With his new album “Danny Boy”, the listeners see Dan moving more into fragile, soft, jazz territory, with amazingly captured stillness and effortless charm that only he possesses. Danny Boy himself uses the studio as an instrument, The overarching vibe I get is that they did whatever they wanted with whatever instrument felt right at the time, for what each song needed, sax and flute for example. Dan is turning into a poet as well with his charming, understated lyricism. His very maturity is revealing itself to us in real-time within his expanding discography. Intrigued to see where he goes next.

RIYL:  Yacht jazz, Kings of Convenience, Nick Drake, Andy Shauf, BadBadNotGood, Dave Brubeck, Beverly Glenn Copeland, Luka Kuplowsky.
